Do I need motivation to work out, or something else?

Next, the discipline. Men do not require motivation. We require discipline. If I only worked out when I was motivated to lift weights, I'd probably lift weights 30 percent of the time. This is not a joke. I've been doing it for so long that it's easy to lose motivation, but motivation isn't a factor. It's a lifestyle of being disciplined. And so when I force myself to put my workouts on the calendar and I develop that virtue of discipline, that virtue spills into every other aspect of my life. And so I become a man who's not making his decisions based on how he feels, but he's making his decisions based on his commitments and what he's disciplined to do. And anybody who's been lifting weights for a significant period of time, at least five years, knows you will make incremental progress as long as you put in the hard work. When we skip the hard work and we just want the reward, we become undisciplined. We think that we can get there quick. So many guys I saw in the gym would come in, they would start abusing steroids, they would get bigger, and then they'd fall off after six months or a year because they had reached all their goals. They didn't understand the benefits of doing it, the discipline, the mental health. They were abusing their physical health. And they didn't get to that point of understanding that this is a great cornerstone for life.
