Does it really matter if I skip church for a few weeks?

The devil will not war against you when you leave, because that's all the devil wants, is for us to leave. And that's point number two: never leave the hospital. All of our thoughts, all of our dispositions, the things that aggravate us, our flesh, all of this, it tells people, just skip this Sunday. Just don't make it to vigil. How many times have I heard this from people. They go, well, forgive me, Father, we haven't seen you in a few weeks, I'm really sorry, we were kind of being lazy one Sunday and we didn't go to church, and then the kids got sick and then we didn't go for two more weeks, and then something came up, and now we can't go, we haven't been to church in a month. I've heard this so many times. If the church doors are open, we should make every single effort in our life to set our feet into eternity. So many times I see this, especially with the young men. It's like the hallmark of young manhood, which is that yo-yo. In and out, in and out, in and out. Here for a month, gone for a month. Here for three weeks, gone for two weeks. Don't come to vigil, it's too long, I've got stuff to do on Saturday night, I'll go on Sunday morning. Weekday liturgy, I probably could make it, but I would rather sleep in, or do whatever, this or that or the other. I don't judge anybody for coming or not coming to church, because I literally have zero idea why people are at church or not at church. So please don't interpret it in that way. I don't know if you have a job on Saturday night. I don't know anything about your personal life and what's going on and why you may or may not be here. So do not take it that way. What I'm saying is, there is one hallmark of the devil, and that hallmark is to get us out of the church. And so it is that we have to spend every single effort and our energy to stay in the church. As Saint Paul says, we wrestle not against flesh and blood. He also says the devil wanders or roams around like a roaring lion looking for who he can devour. Who is the lion devouring? Those who have wandered off from the flock. You can't get the sheep that are in the middle of the flock. You can't reach them. But the ones that wander off, the ones that wander back and forth, the ones that are off doing their own thing, the devil gets them. I've seen it numerous times. Somebody says, I skipped church for a month, but then also I got this temptation and then, Father, I went and did this activity, and then I was ashamed and then I didn't want to come back to church, and then it took me six months to come back. The devil is always trying to get us out of the church.
