What does martyrdom mean for Christians who aren't being killed?

Brothers and sisters, I pray that you would see this awesome example of our holy fathers, the way that they valiantly died and professed the faith, that you would have this same spirit of martyrdom within you. Not in the sense that we have to be martyred, that this will actually happen in society, although it may, but the true sense of martyrdom of laying down your life in humility, of opening your hearts to Jesus Christ, of being weak but being made strong through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And that in this, and in all the aspects of your life, with your family, with everyone you know, and every single way that you go about your life, that is a testimony to Jesus Christ, that he is the center of your life, and that you are willing to forsake all, to suffer all, to endure all, for the gospel of Jesus Christ, so that people know that he has come to save mankind.
