Why can't I stand to look at myself in the mirror anymore?

The holy fathers tell us that in this life the state of our soul in our day-to-day life is actually a foretaste of eternity. So if you notice, when people talk about being deep in addiction, what's the language that they always use when they talk about addiction? They're always talking about their demons. They're like, my demons are getting the best of me. That's not accidental language. When somebody says, I can't look myself in the mirror anymore, why are they saying that? Because the image of God in their face, being created in the image of their heavenly Father, is so distorted and twisted that they can't stand to even see themselves. How much more, when they come in contact with Christ, will they want to see him?
