Why do I have imaginary arguments in my head?

Replaying a disagreement with the boss and scripting what to say next time is, he says bluntly, insanity — a full-blown conversation with somebody who is not there. He skewers the double standard of the commuter who locks the doors at a homeless man arguing with a stop sign, then drives on and goes right back to arguing with his own stop sign. Imagined conversations never play out as scripted and belong to the fantasy realm; his remedy is to drop it, pray, make the sign of the cross, and refuse to go there.
