Does the embarrassment of confessing actually help you stop sinning?

In a word, yeah. It's very humbling, especially when people are new, it's humbling to go and confess sins, particularly sins of lust. So when somebody has that accountability, it does. It has a profound impact on encouraging them to say, I don't want to have to go confess this. Because that's the thing. Sin is like mold, it thrives in the dark. When you expose mold to light, the mold dies. So likewise with sin, when we keep it hidden, when we don't want to talk about it, when we don't want to reveal it, it just festers and grows. That's one of the reasons, like I said earlier in the question about ROCOR, which is I love ROCOR because you get to go to confession so often. It keeps you accountable and close to Christ. It keeps you close to understanding your relationship with God, and it keeps you mindful of the sins that you are confessing week after week. And inevitably, what I've seen is when people confess less frequently, it's easier for that mold to grow, that sin to grow. When they confess more regularly, it really does have a profound impact on their soul.
