Manhood
How do I deal with the fact that life is not fair?
Number two, the scales of injustice. This is a huge one. One of the most brutal realities that you're going to face when you come into adulthood is the reality that life is not fair. And we all kind of know that. And then we get into the corporate workplace, we get real jobs, we get promised things, we get customers who lie to us, we get bosses who lie to us, we get into these scenarios where we are saying to ourselves and other people, that isn't right, that isn't fair. This person told me they were going to do this and they didn't do it. Or they said that they would do this and then they took advantage of my idea or my work or whatever, or promised me a promotion and I didn't get it. I think one of the reasons that men get so beat down is because they get into this habitual sense of feeling that life is not fair and that people are going to take advantage of them. And the reality is that that is part of life. Life is not fair. People are not going to be moral. People are not going to be truthful and honest with you. You have to surround yourself with a church community of people who have integrity, that are willing to invest in you, that you can build awesome relationships with. Meanwhile, knowing that yes, that is the world. The world operates in a kind of amoralistic cloud of moral uncertainty where they constantly are trying to step on each other to get ahead. And the reality is that is life. You have to have the fortitude to say, I'm not a victim. Things are going to happen that are out of my control, but ultimately my trust and my hope is in God. And the people I'm going to invest in are going to be moral. They're going to be people that I meet at church. They're going to be people who have the same values and integrity that I have.
