Is it a mistake to get married young?

In fact, it's a beautiful quote from St Paisios, where he said, oftentimes I've observed when people get married young, they kind of have a childlikeness or youthfulness in their marriage that continues on, because they've been together for so long. They got married young and they kind of keep that young vibrant zeal into their marriage, even for many years. For myself, I got married at 20 years old. I was not even old enough to buy beer. It's one of the two best decisions of my entire life, becoming an Orthodox Christian and getting married to my wife. And getting married young was profound. I've been married now longer than I was single. It's crazy to me. But the thing is that there's a certain vibrancy in that, because you've known the person for more than half your life, and you've gone through all these learning and growing experiences with them, and you become very bonded to them in an incredible way. When you see people who delay marriage, delay having children, put all these things off, it can be really quite hard for them to then transition into adulthood. It's much better to transition in your early 20s and find somebody and be married and embrace that lifestyle of sacrifice, and embrace the love that you have with that person, and mature in those ways early on, not trying to run from it. So many times I met people who were in their 20s and they said, oh, I have to finish college, I have to do this or that. And I would notice that people would often fall into serious sins in college. And I thought, why go to college not being married? There's no benefit to it. I went to college married and it was fantastic, because I got to spend lots of time with my wife. It strengthened our marriage, it strengthened our bond, and it helped us to avoid temptations and sins. Like in every single way, that was a winning situation. There was no downside to that.
