Is it wrong to ask where God came from and why he made us?

You can ask anything you want about God, as long as you're willing to accept that there are not answers. One of those answers is that God is not created and he's from all eternity. The other one is, why did he create us, which I don't think there's ever been presented an answer on that, unless I'm mistaken. I don't think I've seen anything except that God, out of his own desire, created us. But God is not missing or lacking anything. When somebody says, oh, God needed to create us, that is a misspeaking about God. God did not need to create us. God chose to create us. The question of why he chose to create us, I think, is locked away for him alone to know, in his unknowability. So just because God does something doesn't mean that we understand it. It doesn't mean that we will ever really fully comprehend it. It just kind of is what it is. It's okay to not have answers. That's the main thing that I would say. It's okay to not have answers. We can be at peace with that, because there are numerous things in life that we don't have an answer for. And that's okay.
