Does God love the real me, or the version of me I show him?

There's so many things that God loves, but one of the things he says he loves is honesty. He loves truthfulness. He wants us to be real. Nobody wants to have a relationship with somebody who is being fake. Someone once noted many years ago that oftentimes we go to God as somebody that we're not. We go to God and we say, oh Lord, here I am, da da da da da. We talk about ourselves, and it's all fakery. And then as time goes on we begin to burn out on that fakery, and we're like, where is God, and where is his love? And God is like, I was loving you, the real you, the whole time. But that was the part of you that you didn't want to show to me. That was the part of you that you didn't want to talk about or acknowledge. That was the part of you that you didn't want to look at. The real you, but that's who I loved. The fake you, who you want people to see, or you want me to see, or you want to pretend to be, that person, they don't even exist. It's not even reality. It's not the real you. But I love the real you. The real you, that's the person that I love. The sinner, the person that I went out into the highways and the byways and found, the person living on the side of the road, the person who was destitute spiritually, that is the person that I love. But when you come to God and you start acting righteous, or you start acting this or that or whatever, God's like, who is this? I don't even know this person. I only know the real you. This is why when the fathers talk about tears of repentance, what do they say about the tears of repentance? That it's a consolation for the soul. Because in the midst of somebody weeping over their sins, they are acknowledging that is the person who God loves. God loves them in all of their brokenness and all of their sinfulness, exactly how they are. Even if they don't change, God still loves them endlessly, because it's an impossibility for God to love us more or less. It's not like we come to the church and we become righteous and then God loves us more. God is love. His love is unending, through all the length of our days, through all the circumstances of our life, through all of our failures, God loves us. It is an unending, impermeable love that cannot be destroyed by our mistakes, our sinfulness. But all that God wants is for us to be exactly who we are. He's not looking for us to become perfect people.
