Have the gifts of the Holy Spirit ceased?

A little while ago I was talking with this Protestant pastor, maybe a year ago or so, and he was talking to me about how the gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased and these miracles don't exist. And I said, I agree with you. It's true. There are no miracles, there is no grace in the Protestant church. The Holy Spirit is not acting. I said, we agree on that. Then he didn't really know what to say. And I said, but we don't believe that for ourselves. We obviously know the Holy Spirit is still acting, and we have saints and we have miracles and we have all these things that still take place. But you're right, for you it is not active.
