Is money itself spiritually dangerous?

There's a great scene in The Hobbit where one of the dwarves says, "There's a curse on this gold." This gold is cursed. But the reality is that all gold is kind of cursed. That's the problem. When you get your hands on it, when you start making it, we have a natural attachment to it that's unhealthy, a natural proclivity for it that's not healthy. So for most people, making money, or making big sums of money, would not be what we call salvific. It wouldn't be for their salvation.
